In November, the Department of Communities & Local Government published a Draft Bill with plans to ban all tenant fees. We're very happy that the end of rip-off tenant fees seems to be coming soon!
The Bill is still in the Draft phase, but it looks like all tenant fees will be banned, and charging them made a civil or criminal offence. If this happens it would have a small affect on OpenRent, since we currently allow our landlords to charge tenants up to £20 to cover the cost of tenant referencing.
The full details of the Bill won't be clear until the day it is enacted, but we will of course make sure that we comply with any new legislation coming into force if and when the Bill is enacted.
No matter what happens with the tenant fee ban, you can trust us to remain the leaders of openness, transparency and innovation in the UK lettings market.
