What is the Scottish landlord register?
The Scottish landlord register is the official record of all of the landlords with private rental properties in Scotland.
If you are the owner, or joint owner, of a residential property in Scotland, then you must register with your local authority before you can rent out your property.
This is the minimum legal requirement to be a landlord in Scotland.
Do I need to be registered to advertise my property?
Yes, all landlords with residential properties in Scotland must display a current landlord registration number on their property adverts.
It is worth noting, however, that you are still able to advertise your property if your application is pending. In this instance, any advert must state “landlord registration pending”.
You can read more about this here.
Where can I add my registration number to my OpenRent advert?
You will have the option to enter your landlord registration number when creating your advert on OpenRent.
We will then display it on your advert so that prospective tenants know that you’re registered and can rent the property legally and without delays.
We encourage all Scottish landlords to register before advertising their property with OpenRent, however, if your registration is pending, you can still advertise by ticking the "In Progress" button.
This will indicate that you’re actively in the process of registering and we will advertise your property with the note "Landlord Registration Pending".
How do I register?
You can register by going directly to the government website.
