Why has my payment been flagged?
Final balance payments almost always consist of large sums of money (ie the remainder of the first month's rental amount plus the security deposit) being paid to a new payee.
Due to the high value of these payments, some banks may choose to flag your payment for additional verification, pending confirmation of payment details. This is an extra step that they add to ensure the security of your money. We unfortunately have no input on these security flags.
How do I make the payment?
Where this happens, we advise that you first double-check the bank details we provided to ensure you have instructed your bank to send money to the correct account for OpenRent. These are provided securely via the website, and only visible when you are logged into your account.
It's also worth noting that our banking provider is called Modulr (full name: Modulr FS Ltd) - some banks display this information against the sort code.
Where your bank has queried the payment, you may need to contact their customer support team in order to confirm the details and release the payment.
The only way to proceed with your tenancy application is by continuing through any such warnings and making the payment.
If you're worried about sending funds manually, you can go ahead and pay this with the 'Make Fast Payment Now' button on the website.
Rest assured, our website is delivered over a secure HTTPS connection, which you can verify by checking for the padlock icon in your web browser.
In terms of how OpenRent protects your money once we receive payment - OpenRent is a member of The Property Ombudsman, and we have strict processes in place for handling client funds.
We also have client money protection in place, which you can find details of here.
