In order for someone to act as your employment referee, they must:
- Know your salary and other key details of your employment.
- Not be your co-applicant.
You also cannot act as a referee on your own application, and doing so may result in your reference being failed.
If you own the business, or are self-employed, the best person to use as a referee is likely to be one of the following:
- Your accountant (where applicable).
- Your HR or payroll team.
- A member of your senior management team.
If you are not able to provide a referee, you may be able to verify your income using Open Banking - you can find out more about doing so here.
Also, we cannot use documents such as a tax return or P60 to complete your reference, but you are welcome to provide these to the landlord directly if you wish.
